|Position Description:||EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, HUMAN RESOURCES|
The successful candidate will be a member of the President's Cabinet.
Primary Function: Provides strategic human resources leadership in areas including, but not limited to, employee relations, talent management, recruitment, labor relations, benefits, learning/development, organizational design, and compensation. Consults with and advises employees at all levels of the institution on sensitive and confidential matters. Manages the day to day operations of the Human Resources Office.
Responsibilities: (1) In alignment with the College’s strategic imperatives, plans and implements all phases of human resources activity in areas including, but not limited to, employee relations, talent management, recruitment, labor relations, benefits, learning/development, and compensation; (2) Works with senior leadership to develop, implement, and assess strategic human resources plans and programs in areas including, but not limited to, succession planning, employee retention, organizational design, and diversity/inclusion; (3) Provides consultation and advice to employees at all levels of the institution on sensitive and confidential matters; (4) Interprets, monitors, and assures compliance with federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations related to Human Resources and develops policies and procedures related to compliance. (5) Evaluates, monitors, and assesses the College’s fringe benefits and compensation programs to ensure market competiveness, cost management, equity, and compliance. (6) Oversees and organizes the College’s approach to labor negotiations, and serves as grievance officer; (7) Creates and oversees the departmental budget; (8) Provides leadership and development for Human Resources staff; (9) Collaborates with Information Technology Services, Payroll, and other stakeholders to manage, maintain, and ensure best practice utilization of Workday HCM suite products including core HCM, time/attendance, benefits, and recruitment; (10) Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
Organizational Relationships: (1) Responsible to the Vice President, Finance & Operations for performance of assigned responsibilities. (2) Serves in an advisory role to employees at all levels of the institution on matters related to human resources. (3) Coordinates work with members of the administrative team. (4) Relates to the College mission and goals.
Performance Standards: Performance in this position is considered satisfactory when: (1) mutually agreed upon objectives have been attained within a specified timeframe, (2) responsibilities of the position have been carried out at a level consistent with performance objectives; (3) effective cooperative relationships exist with other members of the administrative team; (4) confidential aspects of the position are maintained.
Qualifications: (1) Education: Bachelor’s degree required in Human Resources or related field from an accredited college/university. Master’s degree highly preferred. PHR/SPHR/GPHR certification preferred. (2) Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: (a) knowledge of current human resources practices and models; (b) ability to relate well to people to ensure the office is projected in an effective manner in dealing with both internal and external constituencies of the College; (c) knowledge of local, state and federal HR wage and benefit laws and regulations; (d) desire and ability to make decisions based on an orientation to people that serves the employees of the college; (e) excellent communication skills including the ability to present effectively to large groups; (f) strong computer and technology skills including past experience with HRIS (strong preference to candidates who have past Workday experience or experience with cloud based HCM solutions); (g) ability to maintain high level of confidentiality; (g) ability to collaborate with and influence colleagues, peers, and leaders at all levels of the institution. (3) Experience: (a) Minimum of seven (7) years experience in human resources management, preferably in higher education, in positions of increasingly greater responsibility; (b) Past human resources experience must include demonstrated experience in the following areas: employee relations, talent management, recruitment, labor relations, benefits, learning/development, organizational design, and compensation; (c) experience in union environment desirable; (d) prior experience managing a team is required.
