Fire and Flood: Data Center Disaster, Recovery and Lessons Learned
In May of 2018, an accidental fire occurred on the roof of Hale Library at Kansas State University. Five stories below the roof, in the basement, sat the data center housing HRIS. 450,000 gallons of water poured into the library, and the data center began to take on water. Servers were covered in plastic and shut off. How did the university react when the data center was shut down? This session will discuss the aftermath and what institutions should be thinking about and planning for.
