Iowa State University and the Office of Payroll, Benefits & Tax is seeking candidates for a Payroll Manager. We are seeking an energetic and motivated professional interested in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. This position will lead and direct all payroll critical activities involved in processing the University’s multi-state payroll; to ensure that all payroll payments are made in an accurate and timely manner; to develop and maintain checks and balances and segregation of duties; and to use discretionary judgement and experience to plan and accomplish divisional and institutional goals.
Primary duties include managing payroll staff by providing appropriate training, education, and career development opportunities. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining a high level understanding of domestic and international payroll laws as well as wage levy and garnishment regulations. This position will work collaboratively with internal tax professionals to ensure accurate and timely payment of all state and federal tax withholding and preparation of payroll tax returns. This position will also develop and maintain strong relationships with university departments and external peer groups. This leader will play a critical role in building out the payroll function for the University within the Workday platform and will be responsible for ensuring the payroll configuration adheres to all University, state and federal regulations.
The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of payroll operations and the ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of individuals with a high level of professionalism. Must have tact, effective listening and speaking skills, along with the ability to articulate the needs of the university to other team members. Must have strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage and meet strict deadlines efficiently.
